Raise of hands: Who else loves The Breakfast Club? Though no breakfast was actually eaten in the film, we love the idea of a breakfast club and are informally forming our own (bonus: Saturday detention is not required). It’s no secret breakfast is the most important meal of the day; apart from fueling you up to tackle anything the day throws at you, eating a healthful breakfast helps keep you full until lunch, which means, come mid-morning, you aren’t reaching for those rich, gooey breakroom brownies.
This month, upgrade your breakfast with watermelon! A single 2-cup serving of diced watermelon is only 80 calories, an excellent source of vitamin C and is packed with hydration for a healthier start to your day. Dice, slice, or cut watermelon into sticks for a nutritious side or toss into a blender for a refreshing smoothie to go. Whichever way you choose to incorporate it into your morning meals, watermelon is sure to give you the boost you need to stay focused.
Join our breakfast club this #NationalBreakfastMonth by whipping up these nutritious watermelon recipes:
- Customize your meal: Filled with protein and healthy fats, chia parfaits are an ideal breakfast food for a boost of much needed energy. Top with your choice of fruits, nuts or seeds to make a different breakfast every day of the week!
- Pair with other superfoods: Avocado season is not yet over. Take traditional avo toast and sprinkle some watermelon on top! Your breakfast will not only taste delicious but will be better for you too.
- Blend to perfection: Make the most of your morning meal with a collagen creamsicle recipe that helps you recharge and rehydrate. Enjoy as you get ready for the day or take it to go!
- Feel full and satisfied: Sometimes all your morning needs is a warm breakfast. Steel cut oats are rich in soluble fiber and one of the most nutritious grains! Cook with milk instead of water for added protein and fiber.
